Rail transportation safety investigation R25T0177

The occurrence

On 14 July 2025, at about 08:09 Eastern Daylight Time, a Canadian Pacific Railway Company (CPKC) intermodal freight train travelling west at 56 mph on the Belleville Subdivision struck a southbound pickup truck as it was traversing the Hunt Road public grade crossing (Mile 115.64) in Cramahe, a rural township in southern Ontario. The crossing was equipped with a standard crossing sign and a stop sign.

Safety communications related to TSB investigation R23D0108: November 2023 train collision in Montréal, Quebec

The occurrence

On November 21, 2023, a Canadian National Railway (CN) train and an exo commuter train collided at the St-Léonard-Montréal-Nord station in Montréal, Quebec. The investigation found that the CN train crew had passed a Restricting signal requiring them to limit their speed and be prepared to stop. However, believing the track ahead was clear, the train accelerated. By the time the stationary commuter train became visible, it was too late to avoid the collision and subsequent derailment.
