TSB Quarterly Review — Second quarter 2016-17

Chair's message

As summer turns to fall, it's a good time to look back at the work we've done over the past season. We deployed investigators to 27 accidents across the country, compared with 11 from April through June. We also released 13 investigation reports, and started 12 new investigations.

Our latest safety study, Expanding the use of locomotive voice and video recorders in Canada—which addresses an issue that has been on the TSB Watchlist since 2012—garnered attention from the media and stakeholders. We also released an update into the investigation of the fatal collision with terrain in Îles-de-la-Madeleine in March (investigation updates provide factual information about an accident before the investigation is complete).

We have a lot of work coming our way in the next quarter: stay tuned for new developments. And of course, though we can't predict when and where accidents will occur, we can guarantee that when they do, we'll be ready to take up the challenge to advance transportation safety.
